Google has announced their quarterly profits recently and there are some murmurs out there that the increase has something to do with the Penguin update. Some experts in Search Engine Optimization are theorizing that paid clicks are up 42% over last year’s second quarter because searches are leading to more ads and less organic results. Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable quoted an SEO expert as saying “Google’s earnings report for q2 was just released and it appears to be a pretty good indication of Penguin’s success. There have been many complaints about losing their ranking unfairly due to Google’s new search algorithms. In an article in PC World following the announcement of the changes the company was quoted as wanting to punish sites that violate their “quality guidelines” and reward great sites, not algorithms. One of the more revealing items in the PC World article was Google’s estimate that the change will only affect about 3% of search queries. The Google Panda algorithm update of last year has been refreshed and updated recently and some sites may find their search rank affected. Last year Google wanted to get their search engine to change the way it ranked websites and the new Panda algorithm was born.
